Globally,
tobacco products kill someone every 6 seconds. As the
world's largest multinational tobacco corporation, Philip Morris
International (PMI) bears responsibility for a sizable portion
of these deaths - and those to come. While PMI boasts about
its successful global expansion into emerging markets, the truth
is that the more it sells, the more it kills. By aggressively
targeting young people and legally challenging public health
policies around the world, PMI is exacerbating a global tobacco
pandemic that is already killing 5.4 million people annually,
or over 14,700 daily, and rapidly shifting to the developing
world -- more than 80% of the world's smokers now live in low-
and middle-income countries. |
